I might be generalizing a bit here, but I think it’s fair to say that we humans get kind of a sick delight out of seeing a rug pulled out from under someone.
Or, in the classic case of Charlie Brown, a football.
It’s one of those things that doesn’t ever seem to get old, either. From harmless pranks to utter betrayals, by humans or animals, there’s something truly special about that moment of realization that trust was, unfortunately, misplaced.
