Everybody knows you can never choose your own nickname. Like a gift, it has to be given to you.
That’s why having a moniker like “Chief” or “Ace” is something of a badge of honor.
On the flipside, though, are the many bizarre or plain old gross nicknames people are stuck with for the rest of their lives.
