When I was a kid, my brother and I loved watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail, tons of times over many years. When we were older, we heard this line for what felt like the first time, neither of us had any memory of it. Well, my parents told us that they’d ask us if we wanted homemade popcorn right before the line was said, and we’d be so excited to have some that we never would hear it.
Childhood mysteries have a way of being deeply bizarre and inexplicable, which means a few of these stories run longer than I’d like. But they’re (mostly) hilarious tales of deception, where the mystery is much more interesting than the (often banal) solutions:
