Día de los Muertos pictures that took our breath away (25 Photos)
For those unfamiliar, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a two-day Mexican tradition where families gather to remember their lost loved ones. November 1st is meant for celebrating infants and young children (Angelitos), while November 2nd is reserved for the adults who have passed.
There typically isn’t a lot of time to be somber, as Dia de los Muertos is very much a celebration in every sense of the word. Decorations and candles are placed on the tombstones of loved ones, temporary altars are built in homes, and families cook the favorite dishes of those who have left this earth.
The tradition has been embraced all over the world, and in that light we’ve collected some of the most beautiful photos from the two-day holiday.
