One thing that I find funny about history is that a lot of the time, battles were settled by which side was the least wussy to kill each other.
Could you imagine being in a phalanx and seeing a rain of arrows drown you?
I suppose it’s not so different from modern warfare, but more primitive weaponry was slower to kill, making it more visceral, in my opinion.
Anyway. Battle paintings are super duper cool. Dramatized? Yes, definitely. Still cool? Fasho.
