When Tron entered production in the early 1980s, the idea of setting an entire movie inside a computer was virtually unheard of. Director Steven Lisberger envisioned a digital world brought to life through a hybrid of live-action photography and computer-generated imagery, something no major studio had attempted on such a scale.
