From his workshop in Alabama, Bear Walker carves gorgeous pop culture-inspired skateboards by hand. The creativity and level of detail that goes into each board has garnered him attention from some big names. He’s crafted custom pieces for stars like Jason Momoa and Zacharay Levi and teamed up with companies like The NBA and Pokémon.
He pushes through the constraints of the medium by making the designs work with the shape of the board: the Avengers Infinity Gauntlet gripping the front lip, Venom’s serpentine tongue curling around the deck, a Pickle Rick board that… well, that one is kind of a natural fit. And then there are the small details that are tough to appreciate through photos alone, like the flick of blood spatter on the tire of a Breaking Bad board.
