Somewhere along the line, “good music” got frozen in time. The problem is that the definition of good hasn’t evolved past the same five classic rock albums everyone has on vinyl.
When every conversation starts and ends with Zeppelin or Floyd, you’re not guarding taste, you’re gatekeeping progress.
Take someone like, erm… YUNGBLUD, for example. He’s selling out arenas, collaborating with Ozzy Osbourne, and pulling from the same Britpop and punk DNA that built half your playlists. Most just shrugged him off before even giving him a chance – as most do.
The difference is, he’s doing it now, in the new world where other genres are just as big and choice is endless, in a world that looks, sounds, and bleeds nothing like the 70’s – but draws much inspiration from and houses the same amount of heart and talent.
And let’s be real, do we really need another article about how great Led Zeppelin is? I’m pretty sure Rolling Stone has 50 of those on standby…
No matter your taste in genre, artist, or decade, music can co-exist.
