In the early ’90s, Sony partnered with Nintendo to build a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo. But at the last minute, Nintendo pulled the plug and stunned everyone by announcing a new partnership with Philips, right in the middle of a trade show, with Sony executives in the audience. Sony’s president, Norio Ohga, was furious. Determined not to be embarrassed again, Sony decided to channel that rage into building their own console. They developed the PlayStation and have dominated the console market since.
