1865 was an incredibly important year in our country’s history. As the story goes, 16th President of the United States Abraham Lincoln was in attendance for a play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C.
The performance took place on April 14th – less than a week after General Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to General Grant. This effectively signaled the end of the American Civil War.
However, Ford Theatre stage actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth was also in attendance on the 14th.
