There’s no single image that can fully capture what it means to serve. Across generations– from muddy trenches to distant deserts– being a soldier has always meant stepping into the unknown, carrying more than just gear, and accepting a responsibility most will never truly understand.
This collection of photos span decades of conflict, but the thread that connects them isn’t war– it’s the people in them.
On Memorial Day, we take a moment to recognize that service isn’t just about battles fought, but the quiet weight carried before, during, and long after. It’s discipline, sacrifice, camaraderie, and the willingness to stand for something bigger than yourself.
This gallery is a small reflection of that– the faces, moments, and fragments of history that remind us of the cost, the courage, and the humanity behind the uniform.
I think of my Grandpa who served in World War 2 on the ground and in the air.
Each and every photo made me stop, really look at what was captured and take a moment.
