A pizzeria in Suffolk County, New York, launched a pay-it-forward campaign that saved the life of a depressed widower.
Dennis Kust, 59, was spiraling into a deep depression after his wife Cheryl died. During her long battle with cancer, she told Dennis to “stay strong.”
“The last month of my wife’s life, that’s all she kept telling me, ‘you have to be strong, you have to be strong,’” Dennis said.
But Dennis found it difficult to heed his wife’s words when she was gone, and he eventually lost the will to live.
Then he walked into the Ronkonkoma pizzeria.
The workers at Ronkonkoma told Dennis that an anonymous person had bought him a pie. When he went home and opened the box, he broke down into tears.
