“Thank You… I wish I had the words to express my appreciation. And my wish is that you keep assisting deserving ones.”
I read these words a few days ago and immediately welled up with tears. This simply isn’t normal. We had just crushed Rose’s dreams and her response was Thank you?! It’s heartbreaking no matter how you put it. But let’s back up here for context.
When John Resig, his brother Leo and I started Chive Charities 12 years ago in a pub in Atlanta (a story for another day), we did so knowing there were so many Veterans, first responders, military families, and individuals with rare medical conditions who had nowhere to turn and no community to lean on. We saw what the incredible community of Chivers was capable of and figured it was a no-brainer to do more for those in the most dire of circumstances. What we didn’t anticipate was the growing need and how the flood of requests to our inboxes would only accelerate year after year. We just knew we had a powerful team of do-gooders behind us in the Chive Charities monthly donors and we were determined to change the world, or at least make it 10% happier.
