What’s A Third Place?
There’s something to be said for having somewhere to go that isn’t home or isn’t work. These are the two places we visit the most in our entire lives. But what about a third place?
Third Places are anchors to the community. They are places you can go and relax while also being in public. This all depends on how you define “relaxing”.
The only caveat here today is that you CAN’T choose to relax at home.
A third place must be open, free, and inviting. A place you feel comfortable in. Is close enough to visit frequently, usually in your neighbourhood or on route from home or work.
A place where everyone is on the same human level; no competition or high cost. No appointments or memberships necessary.
There are regulars, who you come to know eventually (or don’t; remember you’re supposed to feel relaxed here), the conversation is the main focus – not your phone or what you’ve seen on your phone either.
Ultimately, you want a place with frequent laughter and good energy that is near places one and two.
