Divorced Mom Country Songs That Used to Rule the Radio
I grew up as the only boy surrounded by 4 sisters. I was raised by my mom – a two-time divorcée. So I’d say I know a thing or two about strong and powerful women.
She’d always have country radio playing anytime we drove somewhere, and those songs stuck with me. But ’90s country artists weren’t singing about the subjects they sing about today.
Back then it was gut-wrenching stuff. Your husband beat you? Let’s go fucking kill him and throw his body in a lake. Your man left you for another woman? Pick yourself up, time to start a new life, “somewhere greener, somewhere warmer.” I feel like that kind of songwriting isn’t as prevalent today, and part of me misses that divorced mom country.
