Happy Random Act of Kindness Week: A Lil’RAK Goes a Long Way
Submitted by Kevade35
I used to work at an Irish pub.
One busy Saturday night, a guy was sitting at table 207 (high top table about 15 feet from the bar). He was wearing the classic green “Keep Calm and Chive On” shirt, so, naturally, I sent him a shot of Jameson and a fresh pint of Guinness on the house. We cheersed from afar, and the shift went on.
About two hours later, the pub bumpin’, the Chiver came up to the bar and left two crisp $100 bills on the bartop. He motioned one was for me and the other for my fellow bartender. And then he gave us a thumbs up, hollered, “KCCO!”, and strolled out of the pub. That was it. No conversation needed.
Amber, my fellow bartender, asked me why this random dude just left us each $100 (keep in mind, an American $100 bill to Canadians is almost enough to start a down payment on a house…)
I told Amber that theCHIVE is a beautiful, well-intentioned community of people who carry out charitable deeds, both big and small.
I told her how about RAK, its impact, and how it forms the foundation of what theCHIVE and its Chivers are.
Random Act of Kindness Week is going on from now until Friday, February 20.
This week, we’re inviting you to keep it simple:
Send a text.
Buy a coffee.
Write a note.
Share a story.
Take the chance to help someone who might not have had the best of days. Because sometimes, even the simplest acts often have the biggest effects on people.
With that all in mind, here are some beautiful humane Random Acts of Kindness from our own community and life outside of theCHIVE.
