Ah, the ever-satisfying beer burp. The exclamation point on a good, hard-earned swig at the end of a long day. It’s easily my second favorite thing to release from my body. But have you ever wondered which brand of beer produces the most robust of belches? I sure haven’t. But I’m glad science found out anyway.
Dr. Stuart Farrimond recently conducted an experiment to find the gassiest brew in the universe. Farrimond tested 31 separate pints of the most popular beer brands. Each pint was stored for 48 hours before being moved and tested at a temperature of 21C.
He then ranked each beer by the levels of carbon dioxide present. If you’re wondering how there’s so much gas in a pint of beer, it’s because the carbon dioxide molecules bond to the water molecules, then break free once inside our bodies, which expel them in the form of a burp.
