How much money you need to make in major US cities to be considered “rich” (29 Photos)
First thing I’d like to address is the word “rich” here. It’s quite a loaded word with more than one possible meaning and its certainly up to interpretation as to what defines one as wealthy (the haves versus the have-nots, right?). So we are defining rich people as the federal government would, strictly based off income data. About 20% of Americans are upper income, or “rich,” according to Pew Research Center, and nationally the median amount it takes to be considered rich is $118,080, however, that figure varies based on the city you reside in.
So below, is the amount it takes to be considered well-off in the 27 largest metro areas in the US, plus what income is needed to be in the top 1% in those states.
Oh, and enjoy the movie references sprinkled throughout the gallery just to liven it up. Not all of them…just a few.
