10 reasons why Action Park was the most dangerous water park ever (10 photos)
1. The Grave Pool
In 1979 Action Park opened one of the first wave pools in the country, and it immediately began a tradition of colorful names for park attractions.
On it’s first day open it was estimated some 100 swimmers had to be rescued from the wave pool. Park officials attributed this to a lack of experience in the pool by park goers.
Off the record some lifeguards suspected that the fans that controlled the waves were turned too high and the wave pool was indeed one of the deadliest attractions.
A staff of 12 red cross certified lifeguards were on duty at all times, and numbers as high as 30 saves per lifeguard per day were rumored.
Tragically there were 3 confirmed deaths in the wave pool.
