He was 77. Jones created the TV series Monty Python’s Flying Circus alongside Eric Idle, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and Terry Gilliam, which premiered on the BBC in 1969. The show ran until 1974, and subsequently birthed a handful of classic comedy films: Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), the Jones-directed Life of Brian (1979), and The Meaning of Life (1983).
