These iconic movie/TV donuts really do make me go nuts
Happy National Donut Day, suckas! Unlike most food-based holidays, this one originated for a good cause. National Doughnut Day is the first Friday in June and honors the Salvation Army “Lassies” of WW1.
During the war, Salvation Army “lassies” were sent to the front lines of Europe. These brave volunteers made home-cooked meals and provided a morale boost to the troops. The American infantrymen were commonly called doughboys and soldiers cooked “doughnuts” in their helmets. Salvation Army lassies were the only women outside of military personnel allowed to visit the front lines.
In honor of this delectable day, here are some great donut scenes from film and TV.
