3D-printing seems to be all the rage these days. 3D-printed cars, guns, gadgets, and more are all now able to be created by specific 3D-printing companies like the San Franciso-based corporation Apis Cor who just created their first ever 3D home.
The house, located in Russia, is a modest 400 square foot residence that took the 3D-printer only 24 hours to build from a concrete mixture, and it is expected to last up to 175 years! The price of this modern house is what’s really exciting as it went on the market for just $10,000! The genius of the printer, according to Apis Cor, is its design “which is reminiscent of the tower crane, allowing the printer to execute the printing process of constructing the building both inside and outside.”
In addition, the process is nearly all automated, thus the risk of human error is greatly minimized.
Looking at the bigger implications of such a quick and affordable way to create housing is that there is a great opportunity to start building cheap houses for the homeless and refugees in desperate need. Entire communities could be constructed for cheap in a matter of weeks.
