Ahhh vinyl. There’s nothing quite like it.
From its warm crackle to the ritual of flipping an album over mid-listen, it really was the pinnacle of physical media. Still is, according to most audiophiles.
But how does it work? Like, mechanically, physically, what is happening when a needle touches a record and music comes out? It’s kind of insane when you really think about it.
That’s the whole idea behind this new series.
How The F*ck Does This Work? is our version of that How It’s Made show you’d get sucked into on a Tuesday afternoon — except we’re skipping the soothing narrator and getting straight to the nitty gritty.
Every installment, we’ll take something you’ve used, seen, or taken completely for granted and try to explain it in ways just about anybody can understand.
