No. It’s not. Not really.
Facebook is creating an umbrella company with a new name that Facebook the website will fall under, along with all of its other subsidiaries, like Instagram, Oculus, and WhatsApp. (Google did the same thing in 2015 by creating Alphabet). But Facebook itself will remain Facebook. That little blue tile on your smartphone with the lowercase ‘F’ that’s actively destroying society? It’s not going anywhere any time soon.
But that didn’t stop every media company from splashing FACEBOOK IS CHANGING ITS NAME on all of their Facebook pages. Which is both hilarious and also sad because the irony of the situation is that Facebook is the reason so many companies have to resort to exaggerated, misleading headlines to stay afloat.
So, instead of an honest headline that reads something like “Facebook to Open Umbrella Company”, we get this:
