I’ve always been fascinated with space exploration, and as an adult, I keep an eye on what’s new and exciting in the world of space tech, NASA and whatever Elon Musk is up to. Which is why this story caught my eye, and frankly, it made me really sad.
On February 13th, an era of space exploration officially ended. It’s been 15 years since NASA sent their Mars Rover robot, named Opportunity (“Oppy” for short) to the red planet to learn whatever it could and report back. This week, its mission has officially ended. Not with a bang, however, but a tiny and uncertain, whimper.
Out of all of the coverage, however, it was a science reporter named Jacob Margolis who tweeted about the demise of Oppy best, and it’s one of the most moving things you’ll read this week.
