Many of you know Dolph Lundgren from his days in iconic action films like Universal Soldier, The Expendables franchise, and of course Rocky IV (which just happens to have the greatest training montage in the history of cinema, if you ask me). But John & I got to meet the man that few people know, who was genuinely sweet, cerebral, and charming as Hell. Did I mention he is a certified genius, because he actually IS. But the story of how Dolph made his way from a brilliant student & gifted fighter growing up in Stockholm, Sweden, to getting his first break into film and ultimately becoming one of the most iconic action stars of our generation is beyond compelling!
Our conversation took us from his early days as a European karate champion, to when he no-name bodyguard for actress Grace Jones, and ultimately how he got his first break into film while standing around on set during a James Bond movie (he starred opposite Christopher Walken and has one of the better stories you’ll hear about that brilliant man). He also described how he beat out over 5000 people to get the title role of Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, and how he nearly killed Sylvester Stallone, during the filming of the final fight– no joke. Plus, just who does Dolph consider to be the real toughest action star in Hollywood? These thoughts, and so many more in a conversation we’ve been dying to record since our Podcast began!
Get your popcorn ready, this was a fun one!
ALSO, Dolph wants to raise awareness for the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking (CAST) which to assist persons trafficked for the purpose of forced labor and slavery-like practices and to work toward ending ALL instances of such human rights violations. As you can imagine, this is a cause very near and dear to his heart, and I encourage everybody to learn how they can help out HERE.
