We all have to retire eventually. And for athletes retirement comes (normally) sooner than the rest of us.
The toll on the body combined with the (hopefully) massive amounts of generational wealth accrued tend to mean that professional football, basketball and baseball players get to say, “See Ya” a little earlier than the rest of us.
But for some of them, the allure of continuing to play the game, build their legacy, and no doubt cash another cheque leads them to second-guess their decisions. Sometimes with a frighteningly quick turnaround.
