1st Place To Face Plants: The Most Brutal MLB Collapses In History
The Detroit Tigers and New York Mets might both have colossal collapses to cap off the 2025 MLB season.
Both squads are fighting desperately into the final week of the season.
For most of the year, the Tigers looked like the best team in baseball, at one point holding a 14-game lead in the AL Central in early July and carrying a 9.5-game lead at the start of Septemner.
BUT: Sports.
They’ve gone 5-15 in September (as of September 25) and now trail the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central. (Cleveland trailed by 11 games as recently as September 5.)
The Mets, meanwhile, had the best record in all of baseball on June 12, and have stumbled in an ugly September. They’re now barely holding on to the final NL Wild Card spot.
With only a handful of season games left, here are other historically brutal MLB collapses — including a few postseason stumbles.
