The Winter Olympics Thought These Sports Were Too Weird to Include
The exact lineup of individual events changes at each Winter Olympics. Sports drop in and are added all the time — snowboarding is a relatively new addition, for example.
And until the 1990s, demonstration sports were a part of the Games. Participants of an obscure event would play a few exhibition rounds to help popularize it, and hopefully get it adopted as a real Olympic event, with medals awarded and everything.
Since the modern Olympics started up more than 100 years ago, there have been a number of notable winter sports that were contested or exhibited that didn’t make the long-term cut.
