I don’t think it’s just nostalgia coloring our glasses rosy.
I mean sure, that’s a factor, but I genuinely believe that the tech from the 2000s and before was just built different.
Batteries seemed to last longer. Analog buttons were simpler. Nothing downloaded an unavoidable update a year after purchase that slowed it down and basically made it obsolete. Things just worked.
Sure, they weighed a helluva lot more, and sure, they couldn’t do nearly as much, but they got what they were meant to do done without all the bells and whistles. Looking at you, blue Gameboy Color. You were (and still are) the real G.
So here’s a toast to the technology of the 2000s (and before). It is a testament to your quality that you still work, all these decades later.
