Caroline Gardner was traveling to the St. Louis area when snowfall caught travelers off guard. She was caught in massive pile-up on Interstate 44, crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer.
“I see comments like, ‘she should not have gotten out of the car.’ But, he was coming straight at me and when I got out of the car he swerved,” Caroline said.
Gardner walked away with minor injuries. The pile-up claimed 5 lives, and dozens were injured. Over 650 crashes were reported in the state as a result of the storm.
