When it was announced that Washington D.C. could get nearly 30 inches of snow, people made a mad dash for the grocery store. This was the scene a couple days ago at over a dozen D.C. area stores as people flooded into the supermarkets, grabbing whatever wasn’t bolted to the floor. Pretty amazing. Any Chivers out there have some stories?

First
Second, suck it confused.
No one actually cares “Insert Name Here”
also wow never seen a shop that empty before..
I beg to differ good sir, you seem to care enough to comment on it.
Caring enough to point out an idiot and caring that he was first are two very different things.
that happens every time a hurricane is about to hit us
ahh well living in Ireland we never get anything that causes us to mass shop
50% off at the liquor store?
HAVE MY BABIES
people are retarded
How many food stamps have brothers been hoarding?
That’s what the local WalMart looked liked when my town got hit with an ice storm last year. Power was out for over a week. I was lucky though i was at college instead of at home. My brother wasn’t so lucky. Murray’s power went out and he HAD to go home to no power lol.
haha 3 feet is nothing and yet people panicked over it, if u live in Maine 3 feet is a small storm
No shit. These pussies wouldn’t make it through even the first month of winter up in the County, huh?
Please we get 30 inches of snow all the time here in Quebec and people don’t freak out!
Im from Quebec too.. this doesnt happpen and we get snowstorms like that often
chalk another one up to crazy americans.
maybe they thought the stuff they stockpiled for Y2K wasnt enough?
i kind of enjoyed the weather
Ok heres my story:
This one time we were expecting a blizzard, so we went to the kwiki mart, and everyone was going crazy, and this old lady grabbed me by my hair and put me in her cart thinking i was food. This kid martin was in the cart too, she thought he was a pumpkin.

Sounds an awful lot like an episode of the Simpsons…..
DingDingDing! We have a winner!
that would be a funny story if it wasnt complete bullshit
does anyone have a story thats not complete bullshit?
sighs*
wheres Fury? She’d totally get it.
*stumbles in late with lampshade on head, one shoe, yodeling through paper-towel roll*
Ohai! Sorry, kindof got arrested the other night. I think your story was awesome, and those that don’t aren’t worth breathing your air.
i live in MD. the grocery stores were insane the day before the snow. as you can tell from the pics. also, i live on a curvy hill of a road that has yet to be plowed. close to impossible to get out. sucks! now im hearing we are getting another 4-6 inches by wednesday?
This is pathetic. You DC, MD, VA, DE people are babies. Try getting this much dumped on you every two weeks.
I am from VA and find that typically the ones freakin out are the Yankee Retirees that flock here once they hit 65. Not to say that some of the people here don’t know how to handle the snow, there is always a rush for bread and milk. We don’t get much nowadays but 10+ years ago we had numerous storms every winter and people dealt with it just fine. That being said, i just made it back from Iowa after being stuck in their airport because they had heavy snow.
I had the pleasure of spending a winter in Moscow and currently reside in Chicago…both have some of the most brutally crappy winters you could ever experience.
Haha, that is America for you. Eating all the time. Anyone over 120 pounds is fat to me.
So even a guy over 120 lbs is fat? Maybe if you’re in Jr. High!
I’m originally from Michigan, where this much snow isn’t a big deal. Now living in MD/DC, they don’t have the right equipment for all this snow. They don’t have enough people out plowing, or the funding for it. The roads are a complete mess. What sucks I stocked up on groceries, only to have to throw them away when the power went out for 3 days.
This is pretty understandable, actually. The county where I live doesn’t budget for big snowstorms, so it isn’t prepared to handle this kind of storm. It can usually take days for all of the roads to get clear, and power outages are more frequent here than more northern places where this kind of storm is more common. Big snowstorms therefore hit us harder than they do in more northern places.
In addition, the people here also usually haven’t been in this kind of storm, so it’s reasonable for them to overreact and not know what to do.
This is why God & Skidoo make snowmobiles. I can always go to Grandma’s house and get canned stuff we put up last fall.
Around here, folks will drive through 12 inches of snow to go weekend skiing, but can’t make it out of their drive way to go to work on Monday morning.
Oh well….
Ha, i get more snow then that off my boots. Thats nothing.
I live in NW DC but am originally from rural pennsylvania and I have never seen mayhem and a lack of order like there has been these past few days. The streets are like a scene from Mad Max,. People dont obey any form of traffic laws and there are no cops anywhere. All of the grocery stores are as empty as the one above and none of the stores can stock beer for more than 10 min. I think its hilarious but everyone else seems to be acting like its the end of the world
You would have loved the South when Katrina came through, everybody lost their minds from east TX to western Virginia.

All you folks claiming that you get 3 feet regularly and deal with it with ease are full of BS. Link your area from weather or news reports which received more than 2 feet this winter. I’m from the back country of Quebec, and yeah, we get dumped full of snow regularly, but I haven’t seen 2 feet in one snowfall in a long time.
I think its shopped, I can tell by the missing pickles.
ding ding ding…. funny MF’r !
I agree with the quebec dude! Eh? I’m from WI bitches, that’s supa fun time when its snowing like that, time to drink some hot cocoa and bang some bitches!
People don’t freak out because it snow all the time in Canada, mabe even in the summer. It don’t snow that much in DC, when it does, it shut things down most of the time. I love the way you tuff guys talk when it don’t involves you.
when we got that ice storm in 08 in Mass the stores were even worse, there was nothing left–that is if the stores were even open, since most of them weren’t thats still pretty bad though
Thank You. i knew you’d get it.
Did you really get arrested?
Shamefully, yes. I may not think so further down the road, but it was well worth it.
What kind of bird doesnt fly!
Well, at least you didn’t get shanked. (I hope)
Saying it was worth it makes me think you were vigilanting in your combat boots, saving hookers,, or throwing red paint on fur cladded women. am I close?
How highly you think of me, and how harshly I will let you down. No, some dude followed me to my car, drunk, and I told him in no uncertain terms to leave me alone. So I got a friend o join me next time I came to my car, and he started grabbing, so I punched him. I still have nasty bruises on my arm. I got arrested for throwing the first punch even though he was being grabby and following girls around at night. Makes sense.
Well thats no good. Did drunk dude go to jail, or at least get his ass kicked?
Here’s hoping they drop charges.
Nope, he got victim treatment, got his pics taken to show my ‘assault’ even though I have gorilla bruises. I had court the next morning, and they let me off, since the cops that showed up knew me. It was a token arrest.
Right on.
Ha. You guys think that is bad? I’m from Texas. We close schools if there is 1/10th of an inch of ice or snow. xD Then again, we also see a tornado going through the city next to us and just nod. Every place is used to it’s own weather. All the Canadians and yanks talking about how they were pussies to stock up like that are hypocrites. I hear you guys complaining about heat waves when its barely 100 degrees outside. Pffft.
[...] Those of you who have lived in the tundra need no further explanation. To those of you who have never had the pleasure, much like the proverbial singing of the operatic ”fat lady,” here in snowpocalypse territory, it’s not over until the meterologists have incited hysteria in the general public. Our town was cut off from the rest of the world for a few weeks due to snow and rock slides. The only full grocery store in town collapsed due to snow on the roof. Every bit of food from the gas stations disappeared and for awhile our shelves were completely bare. Serious snowpocalypse. (it took almost two weeks to dig a tunnel to our neighbors house. I can’t remember how long it was before we could make it to town) The thing I remember most was that one of the things we ended up with a lot of was egg nog, so we started drinking that for meals. It ruined store bought egg nog for me
can tell by teh pickles… nice!
Yes Americans are so silly becuase we try to prepare for teh worst… You know whats worse that being a paranoid kooky American? Being Canadian… okay im just kidding I hear ya we get a lot of snow in Cleveland as well, and we jsut go on with our lives…
HellHath- Will you marry me?
I am already quite betrothed to our ladyguitarstar and Michaellovesmissy
I moved to the D.C. area nearly two years ago and even though I’m originally from NH and have lived in Maine I have never experienced a storm as severe as this one. Not because I haven’t seen this much snow at once, I certainly have, but because of how ill-equipped this area is to handle a snow storm. We are not far enough south to justify such a total lack of preparedness. Snow plow drivers are poorly trained and for some reason travel in packs of 12-15 on one side of the highway taking hours before ever touching the opposing lanes. Vehicles are allowed to be parked on the streets making it impossible to clear all the lanes for traffic. Four lane roads have been reduced to one lane, but people still drive as though they have all the room in the world. Maintenance crews refuse to snowblow walkways and the property managers aren’t bothering to have the apartment parking lots properly plowed. People digging their vehicles out of the snow will simply pile it in front of other people’s cars. If it weren’t for our 4wd truck there would be no way for us to even get out of the parking lot.
