    • Honest Question

I have always wondered why God doesn't save his own places of worship during disasters? I know He wants us to spread His word and enlighten people to the truth, but why does He allow the churches built to help deliver His commands be destroyed?

      • Cake is a Lie

        because he doesn't exist

        • Nathan

YOU ARE THE BIGGEST LYING ASSHOLE!!! I can't believe you put that shit on here! talk about shattering peoples hopes and dreams! …Cake is definitely not a lie you limp dick cock ass, take it back!

        • Beard Manly

Hey, let's stop arguing about whether or not God exists. There was a disaster in Missouri, people need help. Instead of arguing over religion, can't we all agree that as long as we're in this together, we have a simple obligation to help one another?

          • Pete

          • word up

I know right? Why is it human nature to need someone to fucking blame? That is certainly no help.

      • HUNK

It's just a building. It's the people that make up the church.
Lord be with all the survivors and those who lost loved ones.

    • asb

and the christians will see it as a sign or say its a miracle. hello people god just destroyed your town. oh wait the lord works in mysterious ways. dammit, forgot that one. always the out

      • aaron

Dumbass-"God saved my life from the tornada."
Rational human – "So he he killed those other 120 people?"
        Dumbass- "Ummmmmm……….No?"
        Rational human smirks…

        • Cam

Not getting saved is not the same as being intentionally killed.

      • Nathan

God didn't destroy the town. A big ass tornado did

        • Guest

Maybe it fell down and a atheist propped it back up to give hope to his/her Christian brothers and sisters, stranger things have happened.

    • iambigd42

It doesn't matter if you believe or not. As long as the cross gives hope to those people that do believe then good for them. The others who do not believe have to dig a little deeper to find hope. Imagine losing everything you every owned in your entire life, then one day it's gone. Nothing wrong at looking at a cross for a glimmer of hope. Personally I do not believe but I don't care if others do and more power to them for it.

      • Captain Obvious

what if i really really believe in broken trees…wont have to dig too deep

        • That Guy

or if you believed in assholes… you wouldn't have to go any further than a reflection.

          • thatwasfun

            well said

      • Coolhand

        well said

      • Angry Kid

Or, instead of hoping some nonexistent higher power will help you in your time of need, you learn to rely on yourself, take accountability for your own actions, take matters into your hands and go out and help others because you want to, not because "god" wills you to.

        • That Guy

what does it matter what drives someone to help? as long as they help? take a count of how many churches will show up aside the town to help rebuild. but you yourself i'm sure can do a whole lot of helping by yourself from your computer.

          • Angry Kid

I help people every day, and I don't do it because I belong to a club of people who abide by a set of rules, I do it because I want to, because it makes me a little less angry. But, you didn't know that before you started judging me with your comment, did you? No surprise there, you have been conditioned to be judgmental of others over and over, that's religion for you.

            • That Guy

read my words and not what you want to think i said. i said i'm sure you by yourself does more good for those people in Joplin then the scores of churches that actually show up and give hope with words of love, comfort, encouragement, food, shelter, warmth, clothes, all asking for nothing in return. your need to fill the anger in your life with service is no different then a person of faith's need to fill their emptiness with the service of God.
who judged first? was it the person who mocked the beliefs of the people that just had their worlds ripped apart? think.

              • Angry Kid

The people who work on behalf of the church are promoting the church, marketing god, which is why you always hear them talk about it – like you are right now, patting themselves on the back, spreading the lord's "word", praying in public, engaging in debates to promote the value of religion in society. There are many people in Joplin helping out who have nothing to do with religion and do not wear religion on their sleeve. These people choose not to promote their beliefs, but help because they want to, because it makes them feel good, do not discredit them.

                • Nathan

I thought you said that not believing takes no exertion on your part? I would say from all of your comments trying to devalue Christianity and/or religion you are "exerting" quite a bit. hence, your kind of full of it.

                • j22

So people who help people do it for God or themselves ("because it makes them feel good"). But if they do it for God then it is wrong? You people always make christians out to be these judgemental assholes cause you saw it on a show or in a movie. Proves you've never been in a Church. Been going my whole life (till about 3 yrs ago) and I have NEVER seen someone shunned. I challenge you to go to one one day. Tell them you're an atheist, I promise you wont get burned at the stake…. or even kicked out …. or talked to like you talk to believers on here.

                • Bawb

If it is impossible to disprove a theory or belief, then heated debate (see: pointless arguments) is an exercise in futility. Well, unless looking like an ignoramus is your goal, then by all means….

            • ...

Maybe you are so angry because you don't have God in your life.

        • iambigd42

I am atheist, I don't give a rats ass what other people want to believe. They can believe Kermit The Frog is God for all I care. If Kermit gives them hope and makes them accountable for there actions, who gives a shit. More power to them! If Kermit tells them to help thy neighbor, then more power to them. If Kermit says this is the end of the world and you need to jump off a cliff, have a nice flight.

Angry Kid, your name is perfect. You express yourself like an angry kid. I appreciate your opinion however you are just as bad as the believers, you are trying to convince everyone to do it your way not gods way. You are a contradiction of yourself.

          • Fallacy

The problem is… sometimes Kermit tells them to murder everyone who isn't like them.

          • j22

Thank you! As a believer, I disagree w/ u saying "ur just as bad as the believers." Typically we are the ones getting hate on, but it's nice to see an atheist w/o some unprovoked hatred towards religion for no reason.

            • iambigd42

I understand what you are saying. What I am getting at is he is complaining about believers preaching what they believe in when in fact he is doing just that. You believe in whatever you want, it doesn't matter to me. If it makes you happy, more power to you.

        • word up

Um, those are what you call asshole christians.

    • Jason Bell

True a tornado destroyed everything but the devil is in control of the earth until Jesus comes (in Oct)

    • Link

I havent seen something this terrible since Lauren Gentile's feet

      • asb

        oh snap.

      • That Guy

only cause you can't see your dick unless looking in the mirror.. even then it's hard to discern it from the roles. you only know you're not masturbating after it starts to burn.

  • King of Internets

Not sure what this is doing on the Chive..
God bless everyone who was affected by the storms.

    • King of Internets

"God bless everyone who was affected by the storms" gets -7?

What the hell is wrong with you people?

      • Oasis

Thumbs down to "Not sure what this is doing on the Chive."

      • StuScottsLeft Eye

"Not sure what this is doing on the Chive" is kind of a dumb statement given the fact that TheChive has a link to donate $$…The reason this is on TheChive is to show people the devestation and have people contribute money to those affected…I'm Pretty sure Chivers are not giving the Thumbs Down to The god bless part.

      • apple

A photo blog website having photos whod a thunk it

    • King of Internets

Ahh, I see the United Way link.

I'm pretty sure you guys agree this is neither humorous nor amusing, so seeing it here was a bit of a surprise.

      • JImbo

I guess you weren't around a few months back when the Chivers blew up the donation site for an EMT team that needed money. Chivers are more than just people who care about boobs and butts, that's what makes this site so great. Chivers rally around those in need and since this site gets so many hits, it is a great place to tap into people's desire to help others. Joplin needs our help and no doubt the Chivers of the world will once again respond with warm hearts and green donations. Chive on!

        • oX_Animal_Xo

          Chive On indeed. well said.

        • King of Internets

I'll make a donation now for being a retard.

          • That Guy

            a good man.

      • Benjamin

Could somebody just please tell me which way that darn pole dancer is spinning in the advertisement? Is it left or right? Thanks in advance……chive up!

  • Urban

#2 Simply amazing. Keep these people in our thoughts.

    • b-ry

what's so amazing about this? did you mean to say devastating?

    • Urban

Amazing: causing wonder or astonishment. Amazing does not necessarily mean "greatness" or "wonderful" as you might think.

  • BMW

    OMG #1 #2 #5 #6

    • Tee Hee

I don't mean any offense to these poor people but I have to say it. In the first picture the shape of the buildings and the pool kinda looks like it says 'LoL'…………..just sayin…

  • Dirty Dingus

Crazy. Thoughts & prayers to those affected.

So when are they going to start building their cities underground?

    • miles

3 or 4 more times and i think they will finally realize they are in tornado alley and get to it.

    • That Guy

wow wrong time to mention that but a great point none the less.

  • medtxpack

i was in Joplin just month, this is crazy. prayers their way….donations too.

  • Stupid

    • r.pgh

      • shaka

Not really, Laughter is the best medicine. People must attempt to regain some normalcy after such a disaster….

        • That Guy

          agreed but still too soon.

          • Rubadubtub

It's either too soon or too late right? Now give me a kiss.

    • get over it.

well done. not too early. gotta find humour in everything.

    • aaron

That's hilarious. What does time passed have to do with whether something is funny or not? Making jokes will not make these people's situations any worse. Well done.

      • slagthor

1,500 people are still missing. 1,500! Too soon.

        • slagthor

List is now 232… sorry, early report was 1,500. But 232 still missing is still a lot. Nothing to kid about yet. Chiving on from St. Louis, MO.

          • That Guy

better they are now found. worth the mistake.

    • Captain Obvious

      shit made me lol

  • KyleRetrato

    Chin up Joplin!

  • Allenavw

Wow, I cannot believe the devastation. There are so many disasters going on right now. I live in Canada and I am heading to Alberta to help with the Slave Lake fires, I've seen before and after pictures just like these and it's hard to look at so many lives just torn apart.

    • iambigd42

Good luck with the fires and stay safe.

      • Allenavw

Thank you! I'm just hoping to help a bit with getting peoples lives back together.

  • Dan

Unbelievable how this can happen in minutes. My prayers are with all those affected.

  • Sizzle

I can't even believe that one tornado could do this.

    • parking nazi

  • misschris

nbc had an interview last nite of a gal that was shielded from debris by her husband and he died protecting her. started bawling all over myself GAH HERE WE GO AGAIN…

    • Guest commenter

There's no shame in that. Not one bit. Just reading your comment after these pictures that already shocked me, got me glassy eyed.

  • Da_Boz

Look at the before shots and try to figure out where you would go to hide knowing what was coming.
Look at the after shot and realize you were screwed no matter where you went. Unbelievable.

  • WoogyMonster

#24 Mother Nature sure can be a real psychotic bitch sometimes…

  • pyrocyz

They are about ready to release a list of over 200 people who are still missing from this. Terrible tragedy.

    • Matt

I think that the number of people still unaccounted for is much higher than two hundred.

  • Manmar_McHutch

Being a resident of the Sooner Nation and having also spent time in the Northeast, there is just no way to describe thunderstorms and tornados to people that don't live in our climate. The day after this incident we had several tornadoes in central Ok. My wife, four cats, two dgs, and I spent a couple of hours in our central bathroom that night. The tornado past a few miles to the south, thank goodness. All in all, I am humbled by the outpouring of sympahy and support to our region from the Chive Nation in this time of need. And I am sure I can speak for all of us when I say Thank You from the bottom of our hearts. Chive on!

  • akon21
