Finally, a apocalypse-proof house exists (17 Photos)

  • Flicka

    SOLD! 1.7 mill? That's nothing!

    • cheezman100

True that. Compared to the McMansions we usually see here for like 13 mil, this thing is a badass property.

      • Malkintosh22

Not to mention the badass factor. I would expect something like this to go for around $35 million.

    • Chive_Geek

From the looks of the location, I'll bet that broadband access is nonexistent. Now… if the silo had its own OC3 pipe, I'd be all over that!

  • Buster Cherry

Does anyone else find it impossible to read the text when it's on top of the pictures?

    • echogeo

Especially when they decide to use a chive green font.

      • @pezatsea

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought it was just my work computer messing it up. I have to highlight the text to read any of it.

    • Bud

I just drag over it so it highlights the text and makes it readable but yes, I have the same problem.

    • bighipsrule

      Reads fine….change ur browser

      • @pezatsea

Can't change browser when you're on a controlled network. Happy enough to be on theChive.

    • Paul

Must be an at work thing… My type is below the pictures and is black on white background…

Where is the power station for this thing!?
If the Zombies come, you have to have lights on for sure….

    • MN Man

U gotta click and run your curser over it, so it "highlight's it." That's the only way I can read it. Had to do that on last weeks "Hollywood Movie Trivia" Post…….that one was terrible. But long story, longer, yes; it is a pain in the ass!

  • Spaz

Why would you buy a house if it didn't have a runway?

  • Colonel Kurtz

Gotta get me one o them

    • biggles

ya but here is the kicker. If the russians don't know it's a DEFUNCT nuclear silo. Where do you think the first missle is going to hit?!

      Right…right on top of you.

  • Kyle White

My dream house does exist. O_O DO WANT!

    • maboze1x

Looks like cold war isn't over yet. Why would you need a bunker like this? Enless you live in Israel…

  • Bobby Gosbee

This is just awesome, I want it even if the world doesn't end just so I could have the coolest fort ever!

  • Commando00

1.8M if you include the plane??…..

  • Mike

Good for a natural disaster, bad for a Zombie apocalypse. You need an ELEVATED bunker for zombies, otherwise you're NEVER getting rescued. 😉

    • @McBeastie666

If you're in that bunker, you're about as rescued as you're gonna get.

    • Brian Larter

when was the last time you read of anyone getting rescued from zombies? you need to be a one man fighting machine!

      • Underbaker

Only time anyone gets rescued from zombies is so they can be eaten in the sequel.

    • bill

rook. this is being rescued. I love this place!

  • Melkhiordarkbolade

I remember seeing this house years ago on "Popular Mechanics for kids".

  • echogeo

Awesome games of hide & seek for the kids inside.
    Awesome hunting & fishing outside.

  • NOOT

hahaha, i know where this is!

    • C-Dog

Can I get gps coordinates just in case I want to stop by uninvited?

    • newscot

How'd you figure it out Sherlock? Did you read the caption or something?
"Located in Adirondack State Park in New York…"

  • jbear

An apocalypse. How did you people make it through college English courses?

    • greatdiggler

      or apocalypso?

    • Guest

      • dude

        "Dinna" get it right

  • Adamc

That house has been there for awhile. I saw it on a show when i was younger.

    Just saying.

    Its pretty wicked tho

  • All methed up

    That’s fuckin sweet

  • Do0zer

Perfect for the zombie or Nuclear apocalypse but it seems that he silo itself is useless.
#17 I would of loved to see them revamp that.

    • benninj

I bet you could rig it to grow some awesome ummmm gardens, yea that's it, gardens…

  • Slick_Nick

I'd like to see them zombies get in there!

  • Tempest

Shmeh… all's well and good until the coast floods. Come on, everyone knows you build your apocalypse bunkers in/around the Rockies. Just ask the people who built DIA. Now THEY knew what they were doing. Underground "storage" bunkers, check. Runways, check. Underground train system, check. Zombie/masses un-friendly barbed wire fencing, check. Creepy apocalyptic art, checkety check check check. Big, freaky, veiny, blue horse or death with glowing red eyes, sure, why not? Freakiest airport ever!

    • @pezatsea

      Sounds like somone on AboveTopSecret.

Freaky art in DIA, I will agree.

      • Tempest

Ya, maybe a bit, but that's really just where the conspiracy theorists start on that one. It's pretty fertile ground for crazy to build on. There is just something wrong about that place. Way too many dead kids and weeping mothers for your standard public building decor. But I'm hardly the first person to suggest Colorado as a great apocalypse hide-out. That's just a bit of simple strategic thinking.

        • @pezatsea

Fun to watch of the few theorists freak out a couple of months ago when the big emergency drill was held there and POTUS was supposed to be there also.
Another good example of creepy art like DIA is the Bank of America building in Charlotte, NC.

  • bigfoot

So, are we sure this is in the adirondack's of New York? Picture #4 has a cactus in it, and those mountains look rather brown to be in the east. Looks like it's out west.

    • Yessirr

      mmmm.. I don't think that's a cactus, man.

      • josh

it's the top of the plant in the right corner

        • Ajmay

No Cactus. Just a picture of part of a pine tree in the foreground (very close to the lens).

  • 0_0

    Anyone else think batcave?

    • Vault 21

  • dixie

Wow. this place is soo old. must be hurtin for post. reddit not post anything in a while? i saw this on tv 10 years ago.

  • Anonymous

Glenn Beck should buy it. He’s crazy enough to think he will actually use it.

  • Quantumfog

I'm with jbear. It's "an" apocalypse! You must be getting nearsighted from weeding out all the camel toes.

I say that 'cause there hasn't been any in a while.

  • Harmonica

I want a basement door like that #10

    • eggnog

….what (or who) are you keeping in your basement?

      • Flicka

About six-thousand dead prostitutes in a 9-story missile silo. You?

      • wakazoo

        The Ark of the Covenant
        Jimmy Hoffa
        and the Colony of Roanoke

    • Disciple

Move in Switzerland. Almost each house has a basement door like this one.

    • Paul

I live in Los Angeles… I want all my doors to be like that!

    • Tyler

      I agree

  • Albus Quindecim

When I win the lottery I want one

  • packet

My friend actually knows one of the two guys who co-owns this. They have been trying to sell it for 10+ years.
One of the co-owners is actually trying to buy out the other's half and turn it into some type of get away. I'm trying to go visit, if i ever do i will take some more photos for thechive. The chive should contact him and see if they can rent it out for a party!

    • AllanA

Yah they should have a zombie theme party

    • eggnog

      cool story bro

    • fatcatt
