    • MacNCheesePro

PITA to get working, but once they do, they work well!

    • @swiftenhaal

Dumps like a truck, truck, truck.

      • wdf

        Christo: "My name is Christo"
Senior Chief: "Right, so Crisco, lets move on"

  • Mischief_Ninja

But more importantly, how did TheChive get its name….

    • Gahma-Cohma-Lahma

They have a post for that.

      • Emzilla

I though everyone knew that… XD
It's the first thing I asked the Googol about theChive.

    • black27696

      CHIcago and VEnice beach.

    • Biggus Diccus

They really like chives on baked potatoes

    • Ouch

Because they are less than TheOnion

    • Anonymous

CHIcago VEnice. Where the founders are from

  • Ryan

The Chive is half Chicago and half Venice beach?

    • Mischief_Ninja

I remember reading that before. But cmon, Chive is on the same level as all these guys…..maybe even higher…

    • Glenn

They're from CHIcago, and now live in VEnice Beach.

    • Dylan
      • Nylon

        COMPLETE bs

    • JOHN

I still pronounce Chive with a hard K sound. I always thought it meant "arChive" and that's where the name came from. The "real" pronunciation sounds weird to me.

      • archivist

Yeah, me too. Besides, I thought the site was already up and running when they left for Venice Beach?

      • 3MC

that's what they said on the original site- "The world's largest photo arCHIVE". They're trying to pawn off that stupid story of chicago+venice. The site was up loooong before they moved. I've been here since the beginning. I use the hard K sound as well; the "real" pronunciation pays too much homage to the onion, for me.

        • JOHN

I remember something about that when I found this site in fall 09'

  • tsu

#12 I guess they were really lucky then, not having to call it Packard-Hewlitt.

    • Caity

Whoever thumbed you down must have not realized your reference to the spelling error.

    • thatdude

and they used the old logo.. Doesn't matter, anything HP is crap. trust me, i've worked there.

      • The_Stif

I have always had way more success with HP than Dell Products. I personally build my own stuff, but at work I suggest we use HP equipment. What did you do there?

  • passwordistaco

I liked Lougle better. Off to the hot tub!

    • aksands

its so black! its so IMPOSSIBLY black!

Its when something is so crazy it traps your mind in a bottle

    • necause

Sooooooo much creativity in #9 for sure!

    • Nargon

I always thought it was named after Bill Gates' dick…

  • Ryan

It’s totally CHIcago/VEnice beach … For god sakes I hope it’s not because of they’re love for onions!

    • Mischief_Ninja

    • _maxPain_

  • chicago

    #6 is correct.
    #16 fuck Google

    • Underbaker

Show me a better reverse image look up and I will consider doing that to Google. But Google blows TinEye out of the water.

    • Nicnac

Oh noes…. you saw something on the internet that was somewhere else on the internet earlier. CALL FOX NEWS!!!

  • Amigo

#2 Also I heard apple computers was only aloud to keep their name if their company wasn't used for music (because of apple records) that's why it was so long before the Beatles were available on itunes.

    • wtf

      speak engrish, fucker

    • boll

micheal jackson owned the beatles songs so they had to wait till someone killed him to get the rights….google it

  • Dick Salad

oh yea… an ebaums original… good laugh there

  • Brocade

#3 would explain why their logo looks like the Golden Gate Bridge.

    • Daith_Lee

Didn't notice it till you said it….

    • groova

That is actually the intention, yes.

  • Truth Nazi

Not sure about the others, but #2 is false – "According to Steve Jobs, Apple was so named because Jobs was coming back from an apple farm, and he was on a fruitarian diet. He thought the name was "fun, spirited and not intimidating"."

    • bbbbBeaver

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the apple that fell on Isaac Newton's head have some inspiration to the name as well?

  • that_ALBANIAN_guy

How did Aperture Laboratories get their name?

  • Roy1531

Work with it everyday and it sux!!!!!

  • tommytwotime

#16 so it was a mistake??? that's kind of cool

  • Underbaker

#12 Good thing Hewlett won the toss or they would have spelled his name wrong.

  • Ted

Which of these logos is derived from potato seeds?

  • thegoogguy

#16 Didn't happen that way. Larry and Sergey initially spelled it incorrectly, but it didn't matter as was already owned when they finally purchased the domain. Why would anyone hate google(I just work for them so that=biased). Although the guy who wrote "+1 for fuck Google" that's pretty clever if you knew what you were doing.

    • Roxy

And I thought Apple and Google has the most interesting stories behind their business names. Apparently, the information provided in the post was wrong. lol
