Canadian couple raise a grizzly bear as a house pet (19 Photos)

  • Tiny_Dancer

Something tells me this isnt going to end well!

    • Bearfood

If after 18 years it hasn't already ended, We can conclude either that there is a typo in the chive summary and its only been around for 18 months… Or that these folks have done something right….

    • Rodney

They took the right to bear arms literally..

  • Tyler

Chive Make sure you post a follow up post of the hospital/ clean up crew pics after the bear decides to get pissy one day

    • Jonny Napolitano

Prolly cuz they ran out of honey

  • FarknChiveon

Headline should read, "Canadian Grizzly Bear Raises Couple for Thanksgiving Dinner."

    • guest

I am assuming they meant 18 month…unless it is a midget grizzly

  • KCJake

#18 They're trying to figure out how to get out of the restaurant without drawing attention to the piss all over their pants.

  • El Dave-o

for 18 years old, this bear is tiny…

  • Trevor Muxlow

    I love Canada!

    • bh4q

I'm from Canada, and honestly Canadians i thought we've got passed these stereotypes. Oh well, at least my Igloo hasn't melted…

  • Caelan Alexander Dalros

Awesome. I hope Billy won't freak out and become violent, because this is actually really cool.

    • Kristen

      I hope he does.

  • passwordistaco

    #15 Nice rug.

    • Dude

It really ties the room together.

  • Steve Chi Town

And when this bear goes batshit crazy will people be shocked?

  • tv_paul

I'm sure they'll live many happy years together until the grizzly remembers he's a bear and devours them.

  • Meanbean

The bear is going to have a couple of nice human skin rugs for his den.

  • supersport

Does everyone that raise a bear think they will be the ones to out live the bear before being mauled to death? This isn't going to end well.

  • BigPup

    #9 This should end well…

  • TylerDurdenUMD

Provide it food and don't come across as a threat and things -should- work out just ok.

I know it's an entirely different species of bear, but the North American Bear Center here in MN has done a LOT of bear behavior work to debunk a lot of preconceived notions about these, for lack of a better term, FUCKING AWESOME animals.

The thing to keep in mind is this thing's probably not any more dangerous than some of our relatives.

    • Underbaker

Well that's comforting, did I ever tell you I was related to Bonnie Parker, you know Clyde's partner.

    • Damian

You mean like the chimp that ripped that woman's face off? A wild animal is a wild animal, period. Dogs and cats have had thousands of years of domestication and still occasionally go nuts. There's just no reason to have a bear, chimp, big cat etc etc as a pet. And there is no oh it's better off, circle of life gotta respect nature whether or not our sympathies tell us it's cruel.

      • Animal

The chimp who did that ended up having a severe case of lyme disease, and his owner decided to feed him Xanax-laced tea the day of the attack.

    • JAFitC

You can't generalize from black bears to grizzlies. They are as different as a largemouth bass and a piranha. Yes, I know you began by stating you realize "it's an entirely different species of bear" but then you go on to talk about it as if it isn't.

    • NoHope4Some

I agree with you at a 100% If i could, I would raise from birth any wild animal, no matter how dangerous they can be. It my house, my life, my choice if I want a bear, a monkey or a tiger. Fuck the government and their laws.

      • voltviking

That's fine if it only attacks you, but when it eats the kids next door it becomes more than just " your life"

    • jeff

I will not argue about the awesomeness of the bear, but this family is going to get eaten. If you could breed out the aggressiveness of the species it would work but it would take several human generations to get to that point with a bear. The Soviets back in the 80's did it with an indigenous mink with excellent results.

    • quailman8907

They're too busy spending their money raising a fuckin bear. I'd trade my flatscreen for a bear…

    • Terwilliger

Where are you going to get 3d glasses that size.

  • Guest_of_Honor

I just hope none of their neighbors leave picnic baskets lying around.

  • mike

Thats right. Give it booze…> That always ends well, remember a certain chimp on Xanax and tequila?

  • Jesse

    #12 Yea…get the bear drunk…seems smart.

    • Gonzo

My thoughts exactly. Give him a pitcher of beer, forget to feed him for a few hours, then watch the fuck out…….

  • Anthony DeGiulio

Green with envy of these people…
