Old-timey photos always seem like they were taken thousands of years ago (35 Photos)

Anybody else feel this way, or am I the only one?

  • RomRom

    Woah– who's #14? I'd enjoy that!

    • RomRom

      I'm a dumbass – I meant #31, though the wood is appropriate.

Comes closer to my "perfect women" then anything I see on the catwalks nowadays. She's a beauty!

    • irons

Sophia Loren, one of the most beautiful women ever.

Look up one of her old movies sometime, she was poetry in motion.

  • Meertnnn

    • tv_paul

      • FunKiller

  • AstroMikeDexter

I wonder what song they chose to put on #8..

  • myself

#4 only made me think about how so long ago a bus driver could park right next to the curb and now assholes park 2-3 feet away essentially making a 2way street with parking on both sides and lane and a half.

    • PayHeed

That's weird because I ride the bus to campus every day and those guys are fuckin' great. Rain or snow, I've never been dropped off in the gutter. Maybe you should try a different bus.

      • myself

I was talking about regular drivers, not buses. I was commenting that back the bus drivers could be right on the curb but jackasses in Civics park so far away. I did lack clarity.

  • Jonnboy

    Wow… who WAS that??

Here's a random question: Is it Chive like the herb? Or Chive like the second half of archive?

    • AstroMikeDexter

Pretty sure it's a combination of Chicago and Venice (beach), where the founding bros were working at the time it got started.. but I'd say more like the herb, one major hint being the lashings of green around.

    • skip

CHI cago + VE nice = CHIVE like the herb!

      • Loadedcarp

Or should it be SHIve, since the general pronunciation of the Windy City is more like SHI-ca-go…

        Something to think about…

        • Simon

But it's always written Chi Town

    • http://4chan.org/b/ gnocco

theChive was a photo archive for theOnion that broke off. theChive explained it was a combo of Chicago and Venice Beach some years after being around. theChive was in Chicago for a couple years before considering Venice Beach as a new location for office. true story, bro.

Its chive as in "the chive". Just like "cheerios" is the name for cheerios. I don't recall ever hearing anyone ask why cheerios were named cheerios.

    • WS6

"Most Chivers speculate that theCHIVE (pronounced like the plant) spawned from The Onion or is perhaps shortened from arCHIVE (pronounced with a hard k)? Not at all, actually."

#31 True beauty never goes out of style!

  • Gallus

#6 – "U 155" with what appears to be an Imperial German flag. I wonder if it is a captured U-boat manned by Brits, or a surrendering boat still manned by Germans?

#11 – "America, love it or leave it." Yea, I remember those days.

    • http://euroranger.wordpress.com/ Euroranger

#6 If you look at the flags, the lower flag is the Kriegsmarine flag of Imperial Germany and the upper flag is the Admiralty's flag for British warships.

The U155 was one of the u-boats surrendered to the Allies at the end of WW1. It was moored in the Thames as a tourist attraction for some time. Not sure if it's still there.

      • Gallus

Thanks. I was wondering what the story was.
