A staple post-production visual film effect (14 Photos)

69 1

The effect used in these photos is called Chroma keying. It’s a post-production technique in which images or video streams are layered together based on their colour hues. It is a go-to-effect used by Hollywood movies and TV.

Bob copies stuff straight from cavemancircus.com

    • True Story

The internet is a magical place of flowing information, passed from one site to the next. Then it is finally pooped out by 4chan.

    • Alfred

How many posts are you going to write this in ? Shut up and get off the chive. No one wants you here just like in real life

    • Static

reddit is the king of stealing… but the craziest part is that PEOPLE steal it for them.. and then everyone says "oh that was on reddit first"… what?? NOTHING was on reddit first lol

      • McBeastie666

Not the best comparison since it's the users themselves that post on Reddit and vote on what goes on the front page, which becomes more "sharing" than "stealing", whereas the Chive takes things from other sites, posts them as if they were their own and then tries to profit off of it with t-shirts, mugs, socks, women's underwear, etc…
I've been on the chive since it's inception and still enjoy it and enjoy the charity work that they've started, but it does get a little lame from time to time when they repost entire galleries from other websites, pic for pic.
I like the Chive, but they aren't beyond criticism from time to time and you guys don't have to take so personally.

While reddit certainly is an aggregator with very little original content, some stuff is there first. Such as askreddit stuff, and gonewild…

    • hurr durr

Everything is stolen. Its like a joke. It starts off somewhere random and a person steals it from a person from a person from a person.

    • AssClown

And guess what?! cavemancircus.com steals it from izismile.com.

      Jan 26: http://cavemancircus.com/2013/01/26/before-and-af

Bottom line: Everybody is stealing//borrowing from websites; there's a shitload of people that goes to neither izismile or cavemancircus. Thechive is here to entertain us, not just to produce original content. Thechive is the haven for all the best stuff around the web.

    • Steve

Well then derek, you can stay at this cavemancircus.com and leave us alone.

      • Dstebbs

They all steal stuff. It's the internet, that's what a lot of sites do. Ebaums World existed just to steal from other sites and became one of the most popular sites back in the day (still are?).

      fuck ya derek

      • derek

And its not the first time either. For the last 4 months I've noticed it. If all you have to do is copy and paste from another website then just give me a job at theChive office. You know what I'm sayin?

        • Wildcat

Fuck off derek. Nobody likes your sorry ass.

  • samjamead

Derek raises an interesting point. However, I think we can all agree that rad photos of chicks with KCCO scrawled across them in marker pen are probably not taken from other websites…

    • Steve

All these sites just pass around the same shit. But the Chive manages to mix in about 30% attention whores and t-shirt shilling with the rest of the regurgitated shit.

Brilliant marketing. As if they are some precious hand picked non renewable commodity. It's a fucking Tshirt. Print more.

    • moogle

I like AssClown's comment; TheChive isn't about original content, it's a collection of awesome stuff on the internet. Just like Tapiture is a collection of our favourite pictures on the web, none of them are our own original pictures.

  • Redwall

When did this become a thing? Holy fuck who knew we had the technology?

  • Herb

    I don't remember any of those porno's.

    • Teddy turbo

Grammar mistakes are definitely a comedy vacuum. So…..close…….

  • Rich

Sure he/they take photos from other websites, but I don't go to those websites so how am I going to see hilarious things?
I don't need tit pics constantly.

    #1 Is that Summer Glau?

    • Brian

      Find her!

    • StevieB

      Yes, they both are

Are you saying the Walking Dead isn't a documentary? Well that clears up a couple hours a day from zombie prep.

  • Busternut

Why don't they just shoot outside instead of adding outsidey scenes in later? Surely it would be cheaper?

    • StevieB

Think about it: if it were cheaper, they would do it. My guess is it's much easier (as in, much less equipment needed, therefore cheaper) to make everything pretty with a computer than set everything up so it looks pretty for the cameras.

      • Micah

Also it's a matter of control. In the first shot, there are no waves rocking the camera, no sea spray getting on the lens, no other ships in the background. On the soccer shot, they can edit the crowd to time up with a big play. Not sure why the interview on the street was green-screened, unless it was a comedy show and it was mostly improvised or campy.

  • Andy Valentine

Hold up… movies use visual effects?

  • socalmarti

#4 and #14 So basically The Walking Dead needs to hurry up and come back on!

  • Canucks_Rule

#3 #4 – well, kinda ruined that great visual from walking dead.

  • Dave

    I don't even know what's real anymore.

  • Glenn Simpson

That is all a little more extreme than I originally thought. I would assume things like the cruise ship would be done in real life.

  • Max

    #11 #12

Wouldn't want to go to south Philly to shoot either.

  • yoyo

I….I don't know what to believe anymore

Chroma Keying is only the term used to describe Green/Blue Screen shots. Most of these techniques are actually called Matte Painting. This is where the background is made to seem more extravagant.

Why in the hell do you need to greenscreen ugly betty?

    • http://www.facebook.com/vanbenjo Ben Van der Walt

It's cheaper. It takes me less time to key and comp that than it does to drive to the location and film it.

    • http://twitter.com/cougar78 @cougar78

Why the hell do you know it's from Ugly Betty?
