‘The Originals’ go live Thursday. We’re RAK’ing our service members tonight!

So it’s getting late here and I’m going through theCHIVE submission box. Whenever we launch The Originals, there’s always an uptick of emails from Chivers who wanted to RAK their friends in the Armed Forces an Original but didn't get to their computers in time or simply can't afford it. Many of those soldiers and sailors are in a whole other time zone themselves with no fixed address.

So let's do something about this. I’m going to RAK a healthy number of KCCO’s and BFM’s to our service men and women - like, a really healthy number (my accountant called me “a financially irresponsible boy scout. I like it.”. It was a real moment.

If you know an active service member or veteran, email us at chiverygiveaway@gmail.com on his/her behalf and we’ll email you a backlink to the free ‘Originals’. Feel free to include their story. We are assuming all costs except for shipping. You must receive an email back confirming the order. If you don’t know the RAK recipient's address, send the package to yourself and please be sure you get it to them. This is the internet honor system. It's flawless!

We’ve done this before with the Military KCCO’s but this is a whole other enchilada, I have no idea what’s about to happen so please understand we do have a sorta' limited amount of shirts to give away and I'm half drunk at the moment. I'll update this page when the shirts are gone.

RAK away. I'm sure your friends will more than appreciate it. It's the small things after all...

KCCO,

John n' Leo

UPDATE: Thanks so much for all the heart warming emails. I gotta' close this awesome little science experiment down now. If you're one of the service men or women who gets a package, you've got some good friends out there looking after you.

Buy someone a beer this weekend!

As #RAKit weeks gives way to #RAKit weekend, all signs point to the fact that you’ll be spending a little bit of time in the bar (I know I will). Buying a drink for someone is an easy gesture, but one of the most satisfying RAKs you can make. So in the spirit of the giving this week, we are calling our Chivers to pony up for someone at the bar. Be it a beer, a cocktail, or a shot, just put it on your tab for a friend, or a deserving stranger.

As you can tell by the posts this week, we love to hear stories about #RAKit week in action, so if you feel so inclined, let us know about it. Post your RAK on Twitter or Instagram tagged with #RAKit or you can just submit it straight to us right here.

Now go out there this weekend and make someone’s night (or day, we don’t judge).

Join us tomorrow for BBQ lunch at theCHIVE!

I know it's late but we're going hard this week so there will be a lot of posts beyond the regular hours.

It's #RAKit week so we're literally RAK'ing racks (of ribs) tomorrow.

Many of you remember Seth Ringley and Blake Giles. The BBQ gurus who created Triple G Relief dropped everything and to spend two months helping to feed victims of the F5 tornado that ripped through Oklahoma City last year.

Tomorrow we're joining forces once again with the Triple G Relief boys for a special happening outside the new Chive HQ and we're inviting all of you to join us for a free BBQ lunch at theCHIVE. There will also be some very worthy charities there we'd like you to meet:

Operation Blue Santa will be there as well as Austin Pets Alive! and all we ask is you give a small donation to help make Christmas a special time for underprivileged kids and maybe help get some cats and dogs some much-needed food.

Austin Pets Alive! is burning thru almost 6,000 lbs. of dog and cat food every month to sustain all the animals at this no-kill shelter. They could use our help and something tells me there will be a big check from us here at theCHIVE waiting for you when you get here tomorrow :)

Operation Blue Santa was the recipient of a $50,000 grant from Chive Charities last year and they are ramping up efforts to go even bigger this Christmas after the Chivers helped Blue Santa bring Christmas to over 4,000 families last year. I mean, it's Half Christmas after all.

Most importantly - if you don't have $5 to donate, don't sweat it, just come by and experience some great BBQ and meet theCHIVE crew. The BBQ will be in the cul-de-sac next to theCHIVE HQ. Look for the firetrucks and Mac trying to adopt all the cats.

You are all welcome here,

John n' Leo

Surprise your co-workers with baked goods tomorrow!!

Mornings are rough, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. The only thing that's usually on my mind when I roll into the office each morning is how fast can I get a cup of coffee and how much time do I have to waste before lunch arrives. It's a delicate art form, and unfortunately I left my Indiana Jones whip at home so things were looking bleak in a hurry. Then, as if out of a movie, the angelic figure of a woman carrying several boxes of something into the office caught my gaze. That someone was Caitlin Hawthorne our grant assistant over at Chive Charities, and that something was an arsenal of baked goods, brownies, cookies, etc. Needless to say, this changed the mood around here real quick.

That was Caitlin's RAK to our office this morning. And to be honest, it was f%^&ing amazing. And it got me thinking, being that it is RAK Week after all, that this would be a great call to arms for all you guys out there looking to put a smile on some of your co-workers' faces. So bring in any baked goods, bagels, cookies, or whatever goodie that you think will turn the tides at your workplace and send in your photos (or not, it's up to you) to #RAKit

Or if you prefer to use theCHIVE submit page go HERE

Most importantly have some fun. It might seem like a small act, but I promise it will make someone's day. It made ours.

No kind act is too trivial.

#RAKit week begins! How to ride the beast…

Today we’re going to embark on a great social experiment, RAKit week. I had written this silly grandiose thing earlier, something about the harmonic vibrations between people, the intangible connections that reverberate through the empty space and affect us all whether we know it or not. Don’t believe it? Set one guitar closely across from another and strum a chord, see how the other guitar reacts - it will vibrate back. I just butchered both Tesla and the Harmonic String Theory there but I’m striving to a point.

When one random individual connects to another… and then to another, something actually happens. Nobody can prove it exists really, such are theories of non-physical phenomena, but I think it does. And maybe with all the chaos happening across the globe right now some group should try and harness some positive energy by stringing a bunch of Random Acts of Kindness together and, ya know, see what happens.

So RAKit week begins. We’ll be bringing you heartwarming stories everyday from Chive HQ. We have awesome events planned for the whole spectrum, firefighters to animal shelters. Yes, there will still be cleavage but we’re going to heavy up on the small kindnesses that make a big difference this week, and we’re inviting y’all to get in on it. In fact, we want you in the driver’s seat of this social experiment.

Keep your heads up a little more to the world around you, maybe there’s an old lady who needs her lawn mowed or somebody down on their luck who just needs an ear to listen. Be creative and feel free to share your RAK’s using the hashtag #RAKit on social media . You can also submit them to theCHIVE, or just do it to put a smile on somebody's face, which is the point.

Above all, have FUN with this. You’ll be surprised how these small generosities will reflect back at you in ways you never imagined, so put your fingers on the strings and make some noise this week!

John n’ Leo

If you’re near Austin, join us tomorrow to honor our service men and women!

Here at theCHIVE we know the heart and soul of the website are our service men and women. And we're kicking off Memorial Day Weekend with something special.

Tomorrow starting at 6pm we're throwing a happy hour meetup for our troops. It's all going down at our favorite watering hole, Shiner's Saloon. Everybody is invited. This is a not a ticketed event, it don't cost nothin'. If you are an active service member or a veteran you'll be given a wrist bad which will get you a free Military KCCO and all the KCCO Black you can drink.

*While supplies last. - After that you can just drink regular beer for free, or whatever damage you can do to my pre-paid Visa.

If you're not an active service member, just remember to come and meet as many of our Nation's heroes as you can, shake their hands, and RAK 'em a shot or three. There will be live music, food, and appearances from some of your favorite Chivettes.

See y'all tomorrow to raise a glass with our troops!
