Design is not only about making something functional, it is also about making life a little more interesting, it can even have a point of view attached to it – or something the artist wants said. Like this bench with the statues of our modern society frozen in time. Like Medusa had her way with them.
Sure, a staircase can get you from point A to point B, but why not make it a piece of art while you are at it? Across cities and towns, creative minds have been sneaking in designs that feel less like cold, static structures and more like playful, human touches to our everyday lives.
From statues tucked into public squares to staircases that look like they belong in a dream and monuments that make you stop and think, these creations break out of the rigid blueprint and into something alive.
They remind us that art does not always hang in galleries. Sometimes it lives right outside your door, turning sidewalks and plazas into places of culture, fun, and connection.
