A look back at the heroes we’ve helped (15 Photos)

Memorial Day is a time to reflect on how far we’ve come, but more importantly, to remember how we got here. The freedom that we enjoy every day did not always belong to us – we had to fight for it.

Chive Charities is committed to providing financial support to those who defend us. When our veterans have nowhere to turn, they turn to us.

Can you feel it? RAK is in the air! (23 Photos)

As all Chivers know, the community we have built stands on four pillars: Hotness, Humor, Humanity, and Heroes. Those first two might turn you into a fan of the site, but the last two will turn you into a Chiver for life. This week we challenge you to a Kindness competition. With Valentine’s Day in our sights, try treating a complete stranger with the same courtesy you would a loved one… and see what happens.

It all began so simply.
A Volunteer Fire Department in Fluvanna County, Virginia was about to be shut down. An e-mail that was sent to John Resig containing this image of a little girl in the back of an ambulance, holding on tight to a pink teddy bear.

He couldn't have known then, what this image would inspire. What it would mean to us, these three years later. He did the only thing he could think of: he wrote a story. He threw up a Hail Mary to the Chivers. He told them, Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Dept. needs $24,000 to continue providing service to the impoverished people in the county. And then, he waited. He didn't have to wait long.

The Chive community raised the $24,000 they needed and then $12,000 more. In one day.

John realized that the community of Chivers who had all bound together over a number of common interests, shared another interest as well. One that happened to be very close to his heart: They had this insatiable desire to improve the world. Not long after, Chive Charities was born with the launch of Zoe's story. And yesterday, we celebrated our 3rd birthday.

To honor the anniversary, we thought we'd ramp up our fight for the underdog. For the anonymous girl with the pink teddy bear, for the Zoe's, for the orphaned causes, for the voices that weren't being heard. We looked back over at what we've accomplished in three years... and then we looked forward. What is waiting ahead of us is an opportunity. An opportunity to spark a light that will continue to burn for years to come. An opportunity to grow in strength and numbers so that we can help the Zoe's that haven't happened yet. We invited Chive Nation to join the fight with the #50inFifty Campaign.

And just like John did when he wrote about the girl with the pink teddy bear, we took a breath, hit 'publish,' and waited. And just like John... we weren't waiting long...

Endless tears, gratitude and pink teddy bears (6 Photos)

This month marks the 3rd birthday of Chive Charities! We decided to celebrate by launching the #50inFifty campaign.

If you had told us three days ago what was going to happen… we wouldn’t have believed you. Chive Nation, you’ve done it again.
