It was a Monday night doubleheader and 10-year-old Kaylan was on deck. Holding the bat over her shoulder, she envisioned connecting with the ball and sending it flying over the left-field fence. It wasn’t a stretch of the imagination, either. Kaylan loved softball and had been playing for years. This was her thing and she was good at it. Really good.
