theCHIVERS surge through another goal, bring more help to Oklahoma tornado victims and volunteers (17 Photos)
Last week, theCHIVE held a fundraiser to help victims of the deadly tornado outbreaks in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas. Seth Ringley, Blake Giles, and Albert Garcia, had been driving from their home in North Texas to Oklahoma City every weekend. The three chefs brought with them hundreds of pounds of quality BBQ meats and set up mobile catering centers for victims, soldiers, and volunteers. The guys also brought toys and teddy bears for the kids.
Prior to the fundraiser, Seth told me he wanted to to make the weekend trips through the month of June, possibly even July, if he was properly funded. We asked the Chive community for $25,000 to make it happen. In true Chive fashion, y’all thought that was a silly goal and donated over $41,000 to the relief effort instead.
Now fully funded by the Chivers, Seth and Co. made their way back to Oklahoma City this past weekend. He told me Chivers came from as far as Louisiana and Arkansas to help. Bob Thomas Ford in McKinney, TX read the story and gave Seth access to their fleet of Ford F250 Trucks for transportation, which has proven to be a huge help I’m told.
The group spent the weekend cooking, now more recognizable than ever in the area thanks to the fundraising campaign. Along with food, Seth brought a truck load of toys for the children affected in the area. He said that, as many toys as they brought, they only lasted a day.
Seth has continued plans in the area including two unofficial meetups in the works, more on that below…
Seth is working on two unofficial Chive meetups in the works to raise money for the tornado victims, one in Shreveport and one actually in Moore.
The Shreveport Meetup is on June 12th. By the looks of the photo above, it’s not going to suck. Details right here.
The Moore meetup will be Friday, June 28th at Seven47. Located near the OU campus, the owners are huge Chivers. There will be drink specials and a fundraiser. The next day begins ‘Chive Volunteer Day’ in OKC! Details on the meetup and volunteering right here.
Proceeds from both meetups will go towards the tornado cleanup.
Thanks again for all your help, Chivers. You’ve enabled some great guys to bring big help to an area that needs it most.
You can still donate right here.
