The road to the Hollywood Walk of Fame is different for each celebrity. Some’s careers take off like a rocket landing them their ticket early in life, while others keep at their occupation and grind out a long and fruitful career with great highs and often depressing lows. Mark Hamill is closer to the latter of the two.
But growing up with the Star Wars universe, no character meant more to me than Luke Skywalker. I’ll reserve my judgment of how that character was managed in the latest Star Wars film (Luke deserved better) and simply say that as a kid, and beyond, I aspired to be like the farmer boy turned iconic Jedi.
Thankfully, the longtime working actor was finally recognized for his revered rolls and his overall impact on our culture. Yesterday, the man, the Jedi, the Joker, the legend, received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And Harrison Ford, George Lucas, stormtroopers, and an army of fans were all in tow to catch the joyous occasion.
For those who think Hollywood is pathetic and full of snobs and phonies on their high self-righteous horses, I half agree with you. But I think Mark has had a very steady, moral and grounded career, and his rapport with the media and his adoring fans has always been a gracious and humble one. Thanks for all the inspiration, Mark. Now get back out there and keep grinding away.
