It’s been over a decade since singer/songwriter, Phillip Phillips won American Idol. The 2012 champ stopped by SXSW to perform an acoustic set, and took some time to chat with us about his hit single ‘Home’, touring with John Mayer, and his least favorite dudes named Phil.
The Chive: How’s it going, man?
Phillip Phillips: Oh, man, it’s going. I’m sweaty, now I gotta get on a plane and be sweaty next to somebody. I do keep deodorant in my book bag so I can just put it on.
Chive: We would love that.
Phillip: I just smell a lot of weed right now.
Chive: Oh, it’s going around. So you’re so much more than just an American Idol winner. But it needs to be stated that you have the best selling song in American Idol history with ‘Home.’ Did you know that?
Phillip: That’s what they tell me, there’s a lot of liars out there but I just accept whatever they want to tell me. I’ve heard a lot of things about me in my life. But yeah, that’s a nice thing.
