Coming up on the first year since lockdown began with Covid has been… Sobering. It didn’t help for me personally that I only came out of Covid isolation a week ago after managing to catch it, but being able to even drive around the city of Austin felt like a level of freedom only matched by Andy Dufresne standing in that rainstorm after crawling through sewage.
That perspective really had me thinking about what makes people happy in their lives, and how even the act of driving at night with some good music playing brings me a joy deeper than most. So, on our Instagram page, I decided to ask what never fails to make y’all happy. And while some of the answers were jokey (which, isn’t a bad thing, mind you), the sincerity of these answers also brought me a lot of joy too:
