After all, if it’s good enough for Popeye, there might just be something to the leafy vegetable. No, it’s not as simple as eating a bowl of the green stuff daily, however, in the case of patients who’ve suffered heart attacks or had traumatic cardiac injuries and more, the plant might be the breakthrough needed to help rebuild cellular tissue based on the natural characteristics inherent in the plant. As it turns out, spinach grows a network of veins, not unlike our own blood vessels in the human heart. Scientists at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) swapped the leaf’s plant cells for human ones, morphing the plant veins into a replica human blood vessel network.
