UCB creators Matt Besser & Matt Walsh rolled into our office early on a Saturday morning for what ended up being one of the more informative podcasts we’ve ever had. Their new documentary ‘Thank You Del: The Story of the Del Close Marathon‘, directed by Todd Bieber, shares the significant rise of improv through its Godfather and mentor, Del Close, who’s trained comedic legends like John Belushi, Mike Myers, Harold Ramis, Chris Farley, Bill Murray, and on and on the list goes.
The pair give listeners an in-depth look into the world of improv ranging from the differences between long & short form improv, to how their own club cultivated a cultural following spanning the globe. The two even recalled the time Bill Murray threw Del Close a living wake at his hospital the day before his death, and it’s surprisingly uplifting.
This conversation is more evolved than most, but not without its hilarity. We know you will find it both fascinating and wildly entertaining — a testament to these guys’ brilliance.
