Texas Longhorn for life, Vince Young, took time away from his regular rockstar-like status here in Austin to join us for a spirited chat at theCHIVE HQ. The former NFL QB, turned entrepreneur, and now mentor to less privileged children here in town, has lived several lifetimes in his short 33 years. Vince has survived everything from broken homes, to broken bones, and ultimately learned how to successfully break into the ‘real world’ after his NFL career ended. He has managed this transition with class, and even when he’s made mistakes he’s never once run away from the truth or denied an ounce of responsibility publicly. But few have seen the fun & animated side of Vince that John & I have been fortunate enough to know over our last few encounters together. Yes, for some reason Vince keeps coming back to check in on us — go figure.
Today, we learned how Vince avoided early childhood struggles &, almost by accident, ascended to be the greatest QB in college football, capping it off with a National Championship victory. A game between USC & UT that is considered by some to be the greatest Championship football game ever played. Everything from Matthew McConaughey pep-talks, to having his very own official holiday, to Vince sharing with us the one thing he wishes fans understood about the NFL that is becoming a massive issue in mainstream media today. John & I weren’t born Vince Young fans but we became ones over time, and if you give Vince a chance, he’ll win you over too!
You can follow all the happenings in Vince’s life at his website, OR even better, if you’re in the Austin area make sure to drop into the Vince Young Steakhouse for a dinning experience you wont soon forget!
