This is Patty. He works at theCHIVE. Patty’s going to lose 35 lbs. in 45 days (17 Photos)

Meet Patrick McManis, everybody just calls him Patty. He's been one of my best friends since our college days. He recently quit a job he loathed to run theCHIVERY. After theCHIVERY launched successfully, you could see Patty changing a little; he smiled more (he already smile a lot), and there's a slight bounce in his step. After a few beers last week, Patty confided, "John, I want to lose a lot of weight."

Since I've known Patty, he's struggled with his weight. His grandfather died early of heart problems and Patty is determined not to follow in his footsteps. At the same time, Patty told me he wanted to inspire others who have the same problems. I told him I just happen to have a website that a few people drop in on daily.

Patty is the funniest, kindest person I've ever known. I honestly feel like I should pay to hang out with him sometimes.

Patty is going to lose 35 lbs. in 45 days. He's going to shrink into that tiny shirt up there until it fits him like a glove. This morning he weighed in at 225 lbs. He's on his way down to 190. We're going to bring you a photo every day in the 'Daily Afternoon Randomness' chronicling Patty's training, new diet, and all the pranks we pull on him along the way (this is theCHIVE after all).

Make no mistake about it, Patty is nervous and slightly on edge at the moment. He's giving up some of his favorite things. Yes, we're getting him a dietician and a personal trainer. We're doing this the right way. We understand some think this weight loss is too dramatic. Right now we have a green light. If that changes, we'll let you know. Hopefully, in the end, we'll help educate and inspire others to be a little more like Patty. You can contact Patty directly through this whole process to ask questions or encourage him at Pattydontbefat [at] gmail [dot] com. It's about lunch time here, I'm thinking house salad, hold the dressing.

Chive On,

John, Leo, Rick, Bob & Patty

Disclaimer: This is obviously dramatic weight loss. We don't advise anybody else doing this for any reason. But it's what Patty wants to do so here we go.

Kick ass Patty!!!! I'm sure you get a ton of advice and tips, so here is one more- -eat a ton of grapefruit everyday. It makes you have to work to eat a snack (cutting the f-ers are a pain in the backside) and they've helped me go from 240 to 205 in about 2 months. I'm shooting for 180 in another 2 months.

    Good luck!!

Good luck! I went from 255 down to 215 in about that same amount of time. Eventually I went from 220 down to 195 during another weight loss kick. Right now I'm at about 220 and would like to get back to that 195. It can be done.

You do know that such rapid weight loss is unhealthy and unlikely to be maintained.
